Ian Wright hailed a ‘national treasure’ after subtly wearing pink shirt to troll Lord Alan Sugar after Apprentice star mocked Arsenal’s new kit

Lord wondered if would have worn a pink shirt in light of the team’s new kit – and he’s now received his answer in the best way possible. 

star was subjected to ridicule after his , which the players debuted during their first game of the season against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday night. 

Arsenal players, including Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, seemed pretty content to wear the new pink shirts and blue shorts, with their former dark red kit swapped out. 

However, Lord Sugar appeared to doubt that Arsenal legend Wright would have been comfortable to do so back in his day. 

‘Pink shirts !  I  wonder if @IanWright0 would have played in a pink shirt,’ the 75-year-old businessman tweeted. 

He snapped back at a fan in a separate tweet: ‘Idiot a pink shirt to wear with suit is perfectly fine . But a football Jersey  …. come off it.’

Wright, 58, chose not to respond to Lord Sugar in 280 characters on Twitter but instead, by wearing his own hot pink shirt while appearing on Match of the Day on Saturday night. 

During the episode, viewers tweeted in their droves to praise Wright for being ‘petty’ with his wardrobe choice, which was a subtle but clear response to his social media foe. 

One viewer reacted: ‘Ian Wright wearing a pink shirt on Match of the Day after Alan Sugar criticised Arsenal’s kit and suggested that Wright wouldn’t have worn it is the sort of pettiness we can all get behind.’ 

‘Ian Wright is a national treasure,’ one fan declared, while another agreed: ‘Reason 53582 to love Ian Wright.’ 

Another viewer commented: ‘Ian Wright wearing the pinkest of pink shirts to wind up Alan Sugar on match of the day is classic s***housing.’ 

‘There is nobody better than @IanWright0,’ one praised. 

One viewer admitted: ‘I didn’t put 2 and 2 together last night watching MOTD but my god, Ian Wright once again proving why he is a national treasure.’
