has claimed has repeatedly ‘turned down’ offers to appear on his Uncensored show.

The outspoken presenter responded to a since-deleted statement ‘sent in error’ to The Guardian reporter Jessica Elgort calling out to decide the part leader – and thus the next Prime Minister.

In the original retracted statement, she said she ‘never dodged media or shied away from broadcast interviews and debates’.

Responding on Twitter, Piers said: ‘Ms Mordaunt has turned down daily requests to appear on @PiersUncensored so this statement is untrue.’

However, Elgort has since deleted her original tweet and – alongside a screenshot of the initial statement – revealed Mordaunt’s team said it was a ‘draft sent in error’.

She added that the full statement reads: ‘Media scrutiny is important in this contest.

‘Penny has done broadcast and allowed time for journalists to ask questions at her launch. MPs aren’t just picking a new leader, but picking the nation’s new PM.’

Piers’ comment comes after he called out the candidates as a whole for ‘ducking debates’ and offers to appear on his show, insisting it wasn’t ‘encouraging’ to the public.

He wrote: ‘Tory leadership candidates ducking debates (as well as ducking being interviewed on @PiersUncensored) isn’t *massively* encouraging given the challenges that lie ahead for our next Prime Minister, not least standing up to Putin.’

It comes days after to ask them to respect their promises and appear on his TalkTV show.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter has found himself trying to attract viewers to his programme which promises his ‘unmissable verdict on the day’s global events with an hour of fearless debate, straight-talking interviews with the world’s leading figures, and plenty of fun’.

In May, just 10,000 people tuned into Piers Morgan: Uncensored in his lowest ratings yet, while two weeks ago the show was reported to have attracted 43,000 viewers, while competitors BBC News raked in 624,000 and Sky News took 298,000 during the explosive days surrounding Mr Johnson’s reluctant resignation.

‘Hi @BorisJohnson – you may as well do that interview you’ve promised me for the past 7yrs but like so many of your promises, never honoured,’ Piers wrotelat week. ‘You’ve got nothing else to do while you’re squatting in No10.’

He made similarly public pleas to others including Sunak and Jacob Rees-Mogg.
