Lynda Carter has found a passionate fan base twice over in her career: once as the iconic in the original TV series and now as a witty, forthright and rallying presence on Twitter.
The 71-year-old TV star, who hit back at trolls during Pride month by confirming her famous character , has also shared her outrage online over and the US Supreme Court’s , ending the country’s constitutional right to abortion.
Discussing the recent legal ruling in a new interview, Lynda shared: ‘I am so stunned I haven’t really spoken out about my feelings. I don’t think I’ve ever been so speechless.’
She has always been political, joking ‘give me something to march about!’, but it’s only relatively recently that she’s brought this side of herself to Twitter.
However, Lynda freely admits to having had help with her popular social media presence.
Happy not to take all the credit for her online success, she has shared that she has a team of young women and ‘a couple of very cute guys’, led by media strategist Sabrina McMillin, that help her with the wording of her tweets.
She added to : ‘They get me. They get my voice, and my strengths and my weaknesses, and my sense of humour.
‘They are free to voice their own opinions, and they do. They lend their ideas, and expertise, and voices, and we are each other’s cheerleaders. That makes for a lot of fun.’
It’s this team who have helped the actress and singer grab politics by the horns and get stuck in.
‘If not now, when, in my life and career? I’m just not afraid,’ she explained.
The actress lost her husband, attorney Robert A. Altman, last February at the age of 73, due to complications from a medical procedure.
She previously revealed that she was still struggling to come to terms with his death and as she coped with her grief.
She told : ‘I feel that I need to pick myself up and dust myself off, and put one foot in front of the other and be as courageous as I can be, even when I don’t feel like it, to get past grief.
‘And I cry probably three times a day. In the morning and at various times when I think of him.’
The couple tied the knot in 1984 and had two children together: James, 34, and 31-year-old Jessica.
