has signed Pat McAfee to a new multi-year deal.

The company has confirmed the announcer – who as part of the blue brand’s commentary team – has put pen to paper on an extension.

In a press release, they said: ‘WWE today announced that Pat McAfee has signed a multiyear extension with WWE.

‘Since April 2021, McAfee has served as an analyst, alongside Michael Cole, for Friday Night SmackDown at 8 pm ET live each week on FOX. The new pact will see McAfee entertaining the WWE Universe for years to come.

‘Earlier this year, McAfee delighted fans and lit up social media with a WrestleMania debut for the ages at AT&T Stadium in Dallas when battling Theory, Mr. McMahon, and even getting stunned by Stone Cold Steve Austin.’

The company didn’t reveal the length of the star’s new deal, but the decision to tie him down for longer seems like a no-brainer for the company.

Before he joined Cole on SmackDown, he had two matches in NXT to his name including an NXT TakeOver: War Games appearance, and a high profile clash against Adam Cole.

He then returned to the ring for his biggest match to date as he, and he’ll be back in the ring later this month against Happy Corbin.

From the commentary desk to the squared circle, McAfee is a valuable asset to WWE, and looks set to continue that for years to come.

Back in August 2020, then- – real name Paul Levesque – opened up on the star’s potential before he’d even stepped in the ring against Cole.

At the time, he told Metro.co.uk: ‘He wasn’t looking to come in and just, “Oh I’ll be a little part of it or something like that”, like a celebrity. He was looking to come in and be a WWE superstar. He was looking to have an opportunity and avenue for that.

‘Here he is! We’ll see where that goes. I can tell you this. I’ve seen video, I’ve watched him train now – he’s a natural. He is athletically gifted in a way that very few people are.’

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
