A 7-year-old boy was shot and Ki**ed in his bedroom as gunfire from a drive-by shooter pierced through his family’s home.
Bullets struck Paul Vasquez’s upper back as he slept inside his home on the 13800 block of McNair Street in Harris County around 11pm on Sunday.
Paul was sleeping in the front of the home when he was hit in the chest. The boy managed to get up and tell his mother that he had been shot, Harris County Sgt Jason Brown told .
‘He was in his bed in his bedroom. His bedroom was in front the trailer home where the gunfire struck the trailer home,’ said Brown. ‘He was initially shot and he was able to tell his mom he was shot before becoming unresponsive.’
Paul was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Deputies initially responded to a call that someone shot into a trailer home from a vehicle. A silver sedan reportedly pulled up near the home and shots were fired as the family inside was getting ready for bed or already sleeping.
Besides Paul’s mother, his two brothers were also home at the time of the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office. No one else was injured.
As of Monday, police had not yet determined the motive of the shooting.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on Monday morning tweeted he was ‘outraged’ about the shooting and urged the public to come forward with information on the ‘senseless act of gun violence’.
‘A child was Ki**ed and during a drive-by shooting this morning,’ Gonzalez .
‘This is the daily toll of gun violence. Gun violence in the US can’t be viewed as a solitary issue.
‘Let’s not accept daily gun violence as our norm. Our hearts go out to all those grieving in the wake of these shootings. We can and we must do more to stop gun violence.’
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact the sheriff’s office or Crime Stoppers of Houston.
