The body of a decomposing man who was handcuffed was found covered in a blanket in a pickup truck on the Fourth of July.
Police noticed a strong smell coming from a parked truck on the 3800 block of Alice Street in southeast Houston, Texas. Upon investigating, they discovered a handcuffed man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, covered with a blanket.
The victim had several stab wounds on his neck and was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday morning.
Neighbors reported that the truck had been parked on the side of the road for days.
‘I came back in the house from sweeping the porch off and it was still sitting there,’ one neighbor told .
‘I said, “Oh well, maybe it broke down or something.”‘
A resident in the area, Anthony Brown, said his daughter informed him that a body had been found inside the car that was stationed there for a couple of days.
‘I was like, “That’s too close to comfort, man,”‘ Brown told the TV station.
Investigators said the body seemed to have been left in the truck for four to five days.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is set to perform an autopsy.
Police have described the suspect as a Hispanic man about 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighing roughly 150 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a yellow shirt and tan-colored work boots.
A motive has not yet been determined, cops said.
The incident has caused some neighbors to be on the alert.
‘It makes you more aware,’ Brown said. ‘It makes you more attentive and focused on what’s going on around you.’
Anyone with information is urged to call the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers.
The man’s body was discovered one month after a missing in Columbus, Georgia.
