Highland Park mass shooting suspect Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo III dressed in women’s clothing to disguise himself after firing more than 70 rounds, police revealed.

Crimo, 21, is accused of fatally shooting seven people and wounding at least 30 others at a Fourth of July parade in an affluent Chicago suburb on Monday morning.

Known as Awake the Rapper, Crimo opened fire using an AR-15-style rifle from the roof of a business and then ditched the legally purchased firearm and fled, Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli stated on Tuesday. Crimo dressed in a way to blend in with the crowd and escape amid the chaos.

‘Crimo was dressed in women’s clothing and investigators do believe he did this to conceal his facial tattoos and his identity,’ said Covelli. ‘He was seen on video camera in women’s clothing.’

He may have even used a hairpiece in his disguise, according to officials.

‘A wig is not out of the question,’ Covelli said.

Crimo donned a woman’s outfit to make it seem ‘almost as if he was an innocent spectator himself’, Covelli added.

He then went straight to his mother’s home close by and asked for her car without telling her what had transpired. The woman allowed him to use it, and he drove eight miles north.

Crimo remained at large for hours and was arrested Monday night when bystanders saw his car and called 911. A cop briefly pursued Crimo in Lake Forest and cornered him at an intersection five miles from the shooting site.

‘We do believe Crimo pre-planned this attack for several weeks,’ said Covelli, adding that investigators ‘have been in discussions with him’.

‘I don’t have anything to say about motivation thus far because it hasn’t been provided,’ Covelli said.

Police said that charges are expected to be filed against Crimo later on Tuesday afternoon.

Crimo in September 2020 was pictured wearing a Waldo outfit to a rally for then-President Donald Trump in Northbrook, Illinois. He posted a selfie at the event with a Trump 2020 flag behind him.
