This year’s Champions League grand finale between Liverpool and Real Madrid was pencilled to kick off at 7.00 pm but a chaotic scene at the entrance of the match venue led to a 30 minutes delay.
According to UEFA, organizers of the competition, the finals was delayed due to the late arrival of spectators to the match venue, Stade de France.
But from footage trending across social media, it appears a sizeable amount of the crowd, mostly Liverpool fans, were stuck at the entrance,
And per Marvin Matip, he had to flee when security personnel deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd.
“The organisation around and in the stadium is unworthy of a CL final! Using tear gas in areas with children and uninvolved fans is dangerous!“ he told Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.
Marvin, further added he had to flee with his family while they tried to get access to the stadium. His wife is pregnant and they had to take refuge in a restaurant.
