Liverpool stormed to the top of the Premier League thanks to a comprehensive performance against a desperate Manchester United on Tuesday, April 19. Mohammed Salah scored twice as the Reds thrashed their opponents 4-0 at Anfield in a game where United were lucky not to have conceded any more.
Despite the derby nature of the fixture, there was an embarrassing gulf in quality in the two teams as Liverpool showed their title credentials from early on, finding the back of the net as early as the fifth minute through their new man Luis Diaz.
Notably, United were without Cristiano Ronaldo, who was inevitably given compassionate leave following the death of his newborn son. In the absence of their talisman, United showed signs of lethargy and lack of ambition, while Liverpool was the complete opposite, showing flair and winning intent from the start.
